Do not support the Golden Compass

THE GOLDEN COMPASS, a new movie targeted at children, will be released
December 7, 2007. This movie is based on a the first book of a trilogy
by atheist Philip Pullman. In the final book a boy and girl kill God
so they can do as they please. Pullman left little doubt about his
intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "My books are about
killing God."
The movie is a watered down version of the first book and is designed
to be very attractive in the hope unsuspecting parents will take their
children to see the the movie and that the children will want the
books for Christmas.
The movie has a well known cast, including Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig,
and Sam Elliott. It will probably be advertised extensively, so it is
crucial that we get the word out to warn people to avoid this movie.
Which Is My Cross?

On February 5, l597, atop a hill in Nagasaki, Japan, 26 individuals ranging from 12 to 64 years of age were stretched out and crucified upon crudely built crosses. This slaughter marked the beginning of a nearly 250-year nightmare that decimated the Christian church in Japan--which at that time, according to A History of the Christian Church in Japan by Dr. Richard Drummond, was "the largest single organized religious community within the nation." Today only about three Japanese in a thousand claim to be Christians.
Five children ranging in age from 12 to 19 were among those killed on February 5.
Ibaragi Kun from Kyoto-at 12 years of age the youngest of the group--from Kyoto was admired until the end for his remarkable courage in the face of death.
Shortly after they were led to the place of their execution, an official came to him and begged him to recant his faith. Young Ibaragi Kun looked his tormentor squarely in the eye and replied, "Sir, it would be better if you yourself became a Christian and could go to heaven where I am going. Sir, which is my cross?"
The stunned official pointed to the smallest of the crosses on the hill. Ibaragi Kun ran forward knelt in front of his cross and embraced it like a friend. Along with the others he sang praises until he could sing no more.
He embraced his cross! Overcoming fear, this twelve year old expressed the reality and depth of faith in Christ Jesus! I wonder what effect his faith and faithfulness had upon the officials who placed him on the cross? Can you imagine a twelve year old taking his stand for Jesus? What was it like for these officials to watch this little boy bravely suffer the immense pain of crucifixion? What could they see in Ibaragi's and the others eyes as they died for One whom they had never seen? Where they expected to see defeat hatred bitterness and retaliation they saw faith hope and love.
What is Love?

In a relationship, what do you look for? Are you looking for how the other person can benefit you, or are you looking for how you can benefit the other person? Sadly, love today is usually selfish.
The World takes us to a silver screen on which flickering images of passion and romance play, as we watch, the world says, "This is love." God takes us to the foot of a tree on which a naked and bloodied man hangs and says, "This is love." God always defines love by pointing to his son. Jesus came to give us a point of reference, a living, breathing, revolutionary example of true love. And Christ's antidote to the poison of self-love is the cross. "If anyone would come after me," JEsus said, "he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" (Matthew 16:24).
Christ taught that love is not for the fulfillment of self but for the good of others and the glory of God. True love is selfless. It gives; it sacrifices; it dies to its own needs. "Greater love has no one than this," Jesus said, "that he lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). He backed up His Words with his actions-- He laid down His life first for all of us.
Christ also showed that true love is not measured or governed by feeling. He went to the cross when every emotion and instinct in his body told him to turn back. Have you ever read the account of Jesus' praying in the Garden of Gethsemane? He clearly didn't feel like enduring the beatings, hanging on the cross, and giving up His life. But He laid His feelings before the Father, giving Himself over to the Father's will. Jesus' feelings were not the test of His love, nor were they his master. Christ wants us to live the same attitude.

At only a few weeks of age, a kitten's bones have not yet hardened and become osseous. They are extremely soft and springy. In fact, if you take a week-old kitten and throw it to the floor, it will actually bounce! We do not recommend that you try this at home. The kitten may bounce under the furniture and be difficult to retrieve, as well as covered in unsightly household dust. However, the flexibility of the kitten's skeleton means that if the bones are gently warped at this early age, they can be molded into any desired shape. At Bonsai Kitten, we achieve this by placing the kitten into a rigid vessel soon after birth, and allowing the young cat to grow out its formative time entirely within this container. The kitten essentially grows into the shape of the vessel! Once the cat is fully developed, it is removed (or the vessel broken to remove it!), producing the lovable, furry pet you've always wanted, but it remains in the shape you've always dreamed of! There is virtually no limit to the eventual shape of your pet!
