One thing that always surprised me about this dear old website was the viciousness of the comments left on the video pages. Seriously, when I heard I was joining the team of a PG-13 website, the last thing I expected was a million and one hate filled comments. I do find most of them fairly amusing though. Nothing like getting a quick peek into our user's collective subconscious. Oh internet, how I love and hate you :)


With that being said...I have a challenge I'm throwing out to two of our users. Two users whose comments I've been watching lately...quietly giggling to myself.

Mr. Arnold.Benedict and Mr. StandupGuy...I challenge the two of you to an all out flame war in the comments of this blog. Please stick to using the replies for maximum user enjoyment. Everyone else...feel free to add your own commentary in the comments :)

If you guys get funny enough, I would be more than happy to find some sort of prize to send out to the winner, as voted by myself and the other readers of this blog/contest/war. You have to be funny though. Enough to amuse me for more than 2 seconds. If you don't, oh well. Better luck to our next two combatants.

Hey people, just a quick update...

The SV Store is almost ready to launch. Once we launch it, I'll be having a couple caption contests over here in this blog. The winners will recieve a gift certificate for a free t-shirt, or they can use the money towards a hoodie. I'll make sure to include enough to cover free shipping and handling.

Hey everyone...just arrived back in town from a little week long excursion. What new people?!? Anyone do anything crazy over the break?

Being that the weekend is coming up (and I'm having way too much fun going through hate mail)I'm going to go ahead and give you guys another one.

In response to the video "cat=dead" Karen writes:

"WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!!! Do you review videos before you let them on your site??? I am no prude-but my daughter, 14 yrs old, loves to look at your site. She saw a video of a woman playing like she is shooting her cat (with her fingers) and the cat rolls over and plays dead. That was cute but she then saw another video called cat=dead and clicked on it. MY GOD!! It is someone actually killing a cat by crushing it's head in their car's sun roof!!! I am guessing it was planned as why would someone have a video camera trained, from above, on their car. And then, oddly enough, when the cat pokes it's head in the sun roof-it closes on him. Then after he is dead it, by magic, opens to let him fall to the ground-dead!! This is no accident, and if it was, what would possess you to let this on your site. It has been there since 11/99! My daughter was hestericle and still sees this horrible scene in her head. I,of course, will not let anyone in my family, view your gruesome videos anymore. I am also passing this on to my friends so their kids don't accidentally stuble onto this horror. Youtube would never let something like this on. Take a lesson from them if you ever hope to stand in their shadow!! I am also passing this on to our local TV affiliate, as they are asking for websites with questionable background for an upcoming story. I would take this video off your site and GET READY for some questions in the near future from them! Shame on you-thanks for making this world a lot darker!!"

Karen didn't have the honor of recieving one of my responses. Instead I have a few things to add. Let's work backwards through this well thought out email...

1) Local TV Affiliates? Please do. Honestly, when I went on Maury, I was really hoping they would flip the tables on me and call us irresponsible. Maybe bring Dr Phil in or something. No such thing as bad publicity in this space.

2) Youtube wouldn't allow this stuff? You're right Karen. Also, so that your fragile understanding of the universe doesn't cave in around you...don't search for the following terms on youtube...sex, cam girls, gang fight, etc etc...And for the love of all that is good, don't look at this...



3)Sorry about your kid...honestly though, she's 14. What is that? 8th grade? Freshman in high school? Time to toughen up kiddo.

4)The whole thing about the trained video camera, the cat approaching the car and the car magically closing by itself. I don't even know how to respond to this one. Pretty good quality for a consumer camera huh? Pretty nice new ford eh? Amazing magical powers for a car eh? I would imagine that if that car is magical, when the owner isn't filming cat decapitiations, he's riding it through the skies fighting warlocks and saving magical lands by whispering the name of their queen.

5) That cat playing dead is a cute video, huh?

6) PS...this is a european car commercial. I believe the US version has the cat being catapulted from the hood. I wouldn't know though, as I plan on spending zero time researching this.

Welcome friends...

When running a viral video site, there's one thing that's always certain...some people will like what you're doing...others will hate it.

With that in mind, I bring you a new kind of post that I'm going to do as often as possible. Hate mail. It's not all hate actually...half of it are complaints regarding content. They're hilarious too. Without further ado...I bring you today's hate mail....

This is in response to our posting of the video "Shark Surfing."

Judith writes:

"I just had the occasion to watch the video about the surfer \'riding\' the shark. What most bothers me about this video is this idiot caught the shark with a hook and line. And when the idiot surfer was done, what did this jerk do with the line stuck in the shark? Did the line catch on other ocean debris? Will it eventually drown the shark? I guess you buying these videos encourages these idiots to do this stuff. Too bad there isn\'t shark police. Maybe the shark will remember this dope and bite him in two next time."

My response (so far, judith has been one of the few who actually get one):

"Judith,

We can only hope that next time the shark will be that smart.

Regarding shark police...they do in fact exist and have contacted us regarding the incident. A case has been opened and they are currently looking into the matter. I cannot comment more though as we're part of the investigation. Honestly though, it's not going very well due to communication issues.

because of their power but I don't think it is nice to mess with animals this way either. I am glad someone
is looking into this. BTW, the squirrel one was cute."
