Favorite Music: Being the eldest of three daughters, I was allowed to accompany my Dad to choir practise. Before the High Mass at Church, my father's friends would get together in Oom Sinnige's basement. They would let me sit on a kitchen stool surrounded by song sheets and Latin hymns. Pappa was in the tenors' section. I think I have a photo still. Mine was the first father on the block to own a Hi-Fi set. After Mass we had breakfast and then we always listened to the newest album he had bought while he conducted with a pretend baton. His favorite was anything by Beethoven, and the London Philharmonic's version of Tchaikovsky's 'Overture of 1812' because they used real cannons and church bells.
Favorite Movies: We didn't go regularly to the movies like the other kids on our street - Mamma wouldn't let us see anything violent and that even included the slapstick in 'The Three Stooges' which I once managed to sneak a peak at over Jo-Jo Boisvert's house. I still want to see all of the John Wayne's movies Jo-Jo was so crazy about. The first movies I ever saw were both musicals, 'Mary Poppins' and the second, 'The Sound of Music' - I was eleven.
Favorite TV Shows: I know Mamma's favorite was Perry Como. She let me watch his show once when I had the stomach flu - a crummy introduction to modern music is all I can say. My first idea about what I liked in music came when I was ten. I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in February of 1964 three Sundays nights in a row - it must have been the fist time I had the nerve to monopolize the TV.
